Confusion continues for the poorest Lone Parents over Christmas

Since the dramatic announcement of a range of cuts aimed at the poorest families in Ireland in Budget 2012, lone parents in receipt of social welfare are left worried about when they will be moved onto Job Seekers Allowance. One Family Director Karen Kiernan commented: ‘we are concerned that the Minister and the Department of Social Protection have not yet issued guidelines clarifying the new social welfare arrangements. This is causing high levels of anxiety for parents across the country as they struggle to adjust to the new demands being put on them.’
